Management and cultural practices
- Clean the area of weeds and other plant debris to eliminate the shelter that harbors the slugs.
They love moist and shady places.
- Plow the area to expose them to sun and predators and leave the plowed field unsowed (fallow) for a short period to devoid them of food and a place to stay.
- Field with lots of organic matter and which are moist are very attractive to slugs. They also feed on organic matter in the soil. Limit the addition of organic matter into the area once the infestation is causing economic loss.
