Physical control

Use a trap which is ethanol/methanol-based (1:1 or 1:3), to monitor adult CBB emergence and its flight activity (CABI 2000). The CBB adults are attracted to ethanol/methanol-based lure.

To make your own plastic trap, use a 2 liter plastic bottle. Make 2 holes big enough to allow the entry of the flying females. Suspend the vial at the center that contains the ethanol/methanol-based lure. Place water at the bottom to drown the trap insects.


Use 16 - 25 traps in a hectare.

Hang the trap from a branch of the coffee plant 1.2 - 1.5 m above the ground.

Change the bait and clean the traps weekly.
