Curative Control

Plants in pest control

  1. Basil
  2. Chili
  3. Garlic
  4. Neem

Physical control methods

  1. Bagging fruits
  2. Fruit fly traps
  3. Pheromone traps
  4. Yellow sticky traps baited with vials containing a ratio of 1 part ammonia and 1 part water (Ellis; Bradley, 1996: p. 292).
  5. Sterile-Insect Technique (SIT).This control method is releasing sterile male fruit flies in fruit fly infested orchard. It involves the release of large numbers of sterilised males to mate with wild fertile females of the same insect species. For example, sterile male Mediterranean fruit flies are released to suppress wild fertile populations of Mediterranean fruit fly (Creaser, undated). This fruit fly control method is advisable for large orchard and needs a closer supervision. Inquire from agricultural offices for the availability of sterilized fruit fly males in your region.
